Rev. Simon (Sung-Chil) Jang (Johann) and his family immigrated to the United States (USA) from South Korea
in 1974 to establish pioneer Christian churches in the USA for the Korean immigrants. Dovetailing with
this goal which culminated in building the Church of Immanuel in Flushing, New York, the Reverend and his
wife, Dr. Shan-il Kang (Johann) also established in 1982 the Bible Ministry Foundation Inc of USA (BMF), a
non-profit organization to make the Bible and the study of this Living Word accessible to the early
immigrants struggling to acclimate to their new country. Early Korean immigrants needed access to
bilingual bibles and bilingual bible studies as well as a faith home to develop their spiritual growth.
During the next three decades, BMF assisted Korean immigrant families and pioneering churches on the East
Coast from New York to Georgia with bibles and hymnals access, bible studies, Sunday schools, children’s
ministries, and seminars for pastors and music ministry leaders.
In the commissions that Our Lord entrusts us with, personal trials and challenges in our earthly life
drive and grow the Kingdom building work. When Rev. and Dr. Jang (Johann) became grandparents to two very
special needs grandchildren (one grandchild disabled at birth with extreme prematurity and subsequent
cerebral palsy and another with level three autism and severe epilepsy), they felt the calling together
with their family and BMF Board to expand their ministry to include Bible access and biblical faith
formation for the disabled. In 2005, BMF purchased a property in Maryland where after-school programs and
bible studies for the disabled children (inclusive of children with severe autism) began with the
Michael’s Fund assisting direct providers of special needs children to increase knowledge and training. By
2020, this ministry grew to assist the special needs children growing into adulthood, particularly with
safe and accessible spaces for the intellectually disabled adults to acquire work training as well as
develop their faith formation. By 2023, making the Living Word accessible to our people with disabilities
became the primary goal for BMF ministry to the disabled. Unmet need for an organized biblical
accessibility for the disabled was identified as a glaring need. An organized website with free downloads
that features Bible study materials for faith formation (made by the special needs people, for the special
needs community and All God’s people) began as an on-going God’s Kingdom building work driven daily with
Christ’s Great Commission in mind. BMF seeks faith partners for this tremendous goal.
After retiring from hands-on pastoral church vocation and running a Christian primary school, Rev. and Dr.
Jang added two inspiring ministries to BMF. Quiet time (QT) ministry through the Kakao Talk Application
for the fellow Christians in South Korea as well as Korean Americans throughout the USA, reaching the
ever-expanding group with God’s daily QT message via the Kakao Talk App. Over many decades, Dr. Jang had
been personally transcribing (writing out by hand) the Bible (see her work pictured below) praying through
each and every holy word. She has transcribed the entire Living Word over 5 times and have bound them into
large beautiful books. This devotion of love has inspired Bible transcription classes to be started in
Maryland where people of faith come together to transcribe the Bible by hand. Combined efforts of the
transcribing classmates bring together the sections of the Living Word to be coalesced into biblical
volumes.
Over the life of BMF, the love of God’s Word not only in written form but in biblically inspired art, has
been another driving force for the Rev. and Dr. Jang. Sacred old Bibles and Hymnals with Inspiring
Incredible Art together with archeological items and stories are now on display at the Bible Art Museum in
Derwood, Maryland. There is also a prayer room for visitors to have quiet time with Our Lord after
exploring God’s Living Word coming down in texts and art through the generations. The opening blessing
service was held in October of 2024. The Bible Art Museum of the BMF is now open for visitors.
The Board of BMF continually rejoice, thank and give praise to Our Lord God for His Mercy and Grace. We
pray that all the ministries of BMF will continue down the generations to serve those who are in need,
fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission and giving Our Savior Eternal Glory.
