The Pharisees heard that Jesus was baptizing and winning more of His followers than John. When Jesus listened to what was said, He departed Judea and went to Galilee again. He had to go through Samaria and stopped to go to a town called Sychar. The town was close to where Jacob had his son, Joseph. There was a well for Jacob, and Jesus took a break and sat down by the well. It was noontime when a Samaritan woman stopped by to get some water. Jesus asked the Samaritan woman, “Can I get some water please?” The woman replied, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink of water now?” Jesus said, “If you only remembered what God has given you and who that person was, you would’ve asked him to give you new water of life.” The woman said to Jesus, “Jesus, You don’t have a bucket because the well is deep. Where would you find that water? Jacob, our ancestor, sent us that well, and his children and followers all drank this water. You are not greater than Jacob, are you?” Jesus replied, “The people who drink this water shall be thirsty again, but the new water that I shall send will become a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.”
The woman replied, “Jesus, can I have that water? Then I won’t be thirsty ever again nor come here to get new water.” Jesus said, “Go and get your husband, and return back.” But the Samaritan woman replied, “But I don’t have any husband.” “You are right in saying that you have no husband now,” Jesus replied. “You have been with five men, and speak the truth that the man you are with right now isn’t your husband.”
The woman replied, “Jesus, I see that You’re a prophet. Our ancestors bowed to God on this mountain, but you Jews declare that Jerusalem is a place of worship.” Jesus said to the woman that the time will come when people won’t worship Him either on the mountain nor Jerusalem.
After the conversation, the woman went back to town to tell others to come and see Jesus because He was the Messiah. Everyone went to the well and did as the woman told them. Jesus’ disciples came back and asked Jesus to eat something. Jesus told them that His food symbolizes obeying the will of the one who took him and to be done with his work. The fields were planted with new crops and a harvest, as Jesus had described. All of the Samaritans believed in Jesus, so they asked Him to stay, and Jesus stayed there for two days. They told the woman that they believed that Jesus truly was the Savior of the world.
Jesus left and went to Galilee where the people greeted him, and the people were at the Passover Festival talking about Jesus’ work. Next, Jesus went back to Cana in Galilee, where he turned the water into new wine. One day, a government official in Capernaum told Jesus that his son was sick, so he asked Jesus to proceed to Capernaum to let the son be healed by His miracles. Jesus said to the government official that his son will live, and the government official believed Him. The official went back and returned home to see his son healthy again. The official asked his servants what time his son got better, and they said that when he was talking with Jesus, he got better. This was Jesus’ second miracle that happened after Jesus left for Judea to Galilee.
