A wedding had begun in Cana, a town in Galilee. Jesus’ mother, Mary, and Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. When the wine had given out, Mary said, “They are now out of wine.” Jesus explained, “You cannot tell me what to do, because my time has not come yet.” Jesus’ mother told the servants to do whatever Jesus says, and they did. The Jews had six large stone water jars. Jesus told the servants to fill the jars with water up to the brim, draw some water out and send it to the man who is in charge of the feast. The water had turned into wine and the man tasted it. The man said to the bridegroom, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have drunk a lot, he serves the ordinary wine. But you’ve kept the best tasting wine until just now!” Jesus performed the first miracle in Cana in Galilee, and He showed the people His glory, and the disciples trusted Him.
It was almost the Festival of the Passover, so Jesus went to the temple in Jerusalem. In the temple, Jesus saw people selling many cattle, sheep and pigeons, and the moneychangers who were sitting at their tables. Jesus designed a whip from cords and sent both the sheep and cattle out; He also turned over the money changers' tables and scattered the coins, and he ordered the people who sold the pigeons, “Stop making My Father’s house a marketplace. Get these animals out of here!” His disciples followed what the Scripture had said: “My devotion to Your house rises up in Me like a fire, O God.” The Jews asked, “What kind of miracle will you perform to show su that you have the right to do it?” Jesus said clearly, “Destroy this temple, and in 3 days I will rebuild it again.” “Are you going to rebuild this temple in just 3 days? It has taken us 46 years to rebuild this temple!” The temple that Jesus was talking about was His body. When He rose from the dead, Jesus’ disciples remembered it very clearly, and they began to believe the Scripture and what Jesus had said.
While Jesus was in Jerusalem during the Feast of the Passover, all of the people believed in Jesus’ miracles that He had performed. But Jesus didn’t trust Himself to the people because He recognized them all. There wasn’t any need for anyone to say anything to tell Jesus about them, because Jesus understood what was in their hearts.
