Two days later, a wedding had begun in Cana, a town in Galilee. Jesus’ mother, Mary, and Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. When the wine had given out, Mary said, “They are now out of wine.” Jesus explained, “You must not tell me what to do. My time has not yet come.” Jesus’ mother told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.” Jesus told the servants to fill six stone jars with water up to the brim. Then Jesus told them to draw some water out and bring it to the man in charge of the feast. They took Jesus the water which had turned into wine and the man tasted it. The man said to the bridegroom, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have drunk a lot, he serves the ordinary wine. But you’ve kept the best wine until now!” Jesus performed this first miracle in Cana in Galilee; there, God revealed His glory, and the disciples believed in Him.
It was almost the Festival of the Passover, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple there, Jesus saw people selling cattle, sheep and pigeons, and the money changers sitting at their tables. Jesus made a whip from cords and drove all the animals out of the Temple; He overturned the money changers' tables, scattered their coins, and ordered the people who sold the pigeons, “Stop making My Father’s house a marketplace!” His disciples remembered what the Scripture had said: “My devotion to Your house, O God, burns in Me like a fire.” The Jewish authorities came back with a question, “What kind of miracle can you perform to show us that you have the right to do this?” Jesus answered, “Tear down this Temple, and in 3 days I will build it again.” They asked, “Are you going to build this Temple again in 3 days? It has taken us 46 years to build this Temple!” The temple that Jesus was talking about was His body. When He was raised from death, Jesus’ disciples remembered and believed the Scripture.
While Jesus was in Jerusalem during the Feast of the Passover, many people believed in Him as they saw the miracles He had performed. But Jesus didn’t trust Himself to them because He knew what was in their hearts.
