Genesis 50 is the final chapter of the book of Genesis. It begins with the death of Jacob, and we see Joseph leading the mourning process. Joseph requests Pharaoh's permission to bury his father in Canaan, and Pharaoh grants it. The entire household of Joseph, along with chariots and horsemen, accompany him to Canaan for the burial of his father.:
After burying Jacob, Joseph's brothers fear retribution now that their father is gone, but Joseph reassures them and emphasizes that what they intended for evil, God turned around and made them good. He comforts and forgives them one at a time, reaffirming that he harbors no ill will to be made out.
In the final paragraph of Genesis 50, Joseph dies and is embalmed in Egypt. His brothers pledge to fulfill his wishes regarding his burial, signifying the unity and reconciliation within the family. The chapter concludes with Joseph's body being placed in a coffin in Egypt, awaiting the day when the Israelites would leave and take him back to the land of Canaan as a testament to their faith and hope in God's promises.
