Genesis Chapter 36 Bible Study

Esau took his wives from Canaan’s daughters: Adah, Oholibamah and Basemath. And Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan. After that, Eʹsau took his wives, sons, daughters, all the members of his household, his herd and all his other beasts, and all the wealth he had accumulated in the land of Canaan and he went to another land some distance far away from Jacob his brother, for their goods had become too many for them to dwell together, and the land where they were residing* was not able to build up for them because of the herds. 8 So Eʹsau started residing in Seir, a mountainous region. Eʹsau is Edom.

These are the names of the sons of Eʹsau: Eliphaz and Reuel. The sons of Eliphaz were Teʹman, Omar, Zeʹpho, Gaʹtam, and Keʹnaz. Timʹna became the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son. In time she bore to Amalek. These are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife. These are the sons of Reuel: Naʹhath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. These were the sons of O·hol·i·baʹmah the daughter of Aʹnah, the granddaughter of Zibʹe·on, Esau’s wife, whom she bore to Eʹsau: Jeʹush, Jaʹlam, and Korʹah. These are the sheikhs* of the sons of Eʹsau:+ The sons of Eliphaz, Esau’s firstborn: Sheikh Teʹman, Sheikh Omar, Sheikh Zeʹpho, Sheikh Keʹnaz, Sheikh Korʹah, Sheikh Gaʹtam, and Sheikh Amalek. These are the sheikhs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom. These are the sons by Adah. These are the sons of Reuel, Sheikh Naʹhath, Sheikh Zerah, Sheikh Shammah, and Sheikh Mizzah. These are the sheikhs of Reuel in the land of Edom. These are the sons by Basemath, Esau’s wife.

These are the sons of Eʹsau with their sheiks. He is called Edom. These are the sons of Seir’s inhabitants: Lotan, Shobal, Zibʹe·on, Aʹnah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the sheikhs of the Horites, the sons of Seir, in the land of Edom. The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan’s sister was Timʹna. These are Shobal’s sons, Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Oʹnam. These are the sons of Zibʹe·on: Aiah and Aʹnah. This is the Aʹnah who found the hot springs in the wilderness while he was helping the donkeys out for Zibʹe·on. These are the children of Aʹnah: Diʹshon and O·hol·i·baʹmah the daughter of Aʹnah. These are the sons of Diʹshon: Hemʹdan, Eshʹban, Ithʹran, and Cheran. These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaʹa·van, and Akan. These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. These are the sheikhs of the Horites: Sheikh Lotan, Sheikh Shobal, Sheikh Zibʹe·on, Sheikh Aʹnah, Sheikh Diʹshon, Sheikh Ezer and Sheikh Dishan. These are the sheikhs of the Horites according to their sheikhs in Seir.

Now these are the kings who ruled in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the Israelites. Bela ruled in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinʹha·bah. When Bela died, Jobab began to rule in his place. When Jobab died, Husham began to rule in his place. When Husham died, Hadad began to rule in his place, and the name of his city was Avith. When Hadad died, Samlah began to rule in his place. When Samlah died, Shaul began to rule in his place. When Shaul died, Baʹal- haʹnan began to reign in his place. When Baʹal-haʹnan died, Haʹdar began to reign in his place. The name of his city was Paʹu, and the name of his wife was Mehetabel. So these are the names of the sheikhs of Eʹsau according to their families, according to their places, by their names: Sheikh Timʹna, Sheikh Alʹvah, Sheikh Jeʹtheth,+ 41 Sheikh O·hol·i·baʹmah, Sheikh Eʹlah, Sheikh Piʹnon, 42 Sheikh Keʹnaz, Sheikh Teʹman, Sheikh Mibʹzar, Sheikh Magdiel, and Sheikh Iram. These are the sheikhs of Edom according to their settlements in the land of their possession. This is Eʹsau the father of Edom.
