Jacob’s eyes couldn't see Esau's face, so he called out to Esau, "Esau, my son, where are you?" Esau answered, "Here I am. What is it that you need me to do?" Isaac said, "I am an old man, and I need you to do two things for me. Go out to the field and hunt game for me, and please bring me back tasty food to eat before the day of my death, so that my soul will find blessings."
Isaac's wife, Rebekah, was listening to another statement before speaking to Jacob. Rebekah said, "I have heard your statement about hunting game, and I understand your ways. Now, Jacob, my son, obey my voice as I command you. Please go out to your flock and choose two kid goats, then bring the food to eat until your father's death. Remember, you must understand me better."
But Jacob said, "Esau and I are different sons. Maybe my father will get to know me better too. I shall deceive to show Jacob immediately." So Rebekah told Jacob to obey her voice and do the tasks required. First, Jacob brought back two goats, and Rebekah cooked delicious food that her father loved the most. She put Esau's clothes on Jacob's skin and then the goat's skins on his hands and neck. She also had a hand of food, including bread, that she had prepared for Jacob to eat. Isaac said, "Esau, I am done. I have listened to Rebekah's tasks and did as you requested." "But how did you find them fast enough?" Jacob's father said. "Because God did it. He brought them over to me to answer my calling."
Then Jacob's father said, "Okay, come near to me. Let us see if you are really my son, Esau." When Jacob's father, Isaac, recognized Esau, he blessed him after bowing down and sitting to eat. But when Jacob had finished eating in Isaac's presence, Isaac was angry. Esau cried out, "Bless me, Isaac!" But Isaac said with fear, "Your brother took away your blessing with deceit and foolishness!" Esau couldn't believe what had happened, so he decided not to like Jacob at all with all his might. Esau was hopeless because he didn't know what to do next, so Jacob escaped from him. Then Isaac told Esau to serve him and arise. Rebekah said, "I'm tired of you always fighting each other. Why should I care about both of you? You know how difficult it is for me to serve in this way. I am careful about my life. If the days of Heth were difficult to pass on, and you, Jacob, deny Isaac's requests, what good am I as a woman when God can show me how to comfort and cherish these brothers?"
