Genesis Chapter 36 Bible Study

These are Esau’s sons, the ancestors of the Edomites: Eliphaz (with his Canaanite wife, Adah), Reuel (with Basemath), and Anah, Jeush, Jalam and Korah (with Oholibamah). Esau took his properties and people away from his brother, Jacob, and settled down in the hill country of Edom because the land wasn’t big enough to stay together. 

Eliphaz, Esau’s son, was the ancestor of the names of the following tribes: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, Korah, Gatam and Amalek (with another wife, Timna). Another son of Esau, Reuel’s tribes were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. 

The tribes were the descendants of Seir, a Horite: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. Lotan was the ancestor of Hori and Heman and his sister was Timna. Shobal was the ancestor of the clans: Alvan, Manahath, Ebel, Shepho and Onam. Zibeon had two sons, Aiah and Anah. Anah found a hot spring in the wilderness and was a father of Dishon and Oholibamah. Dishon was the ancestor of the clans of Hemdon, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheron. Ezer was the ancestor of the clans of Bilhon, Zaavan, and Akan. Dishan was the ancestor of the clans of Uz and Aran. 

Before there were any kings in Israel, the following kings ruled over Edom: Bela, Jobab, Husham, Hadad, Samlah, Shaul, Baal Hanon and Hadad from Pau. Esau was the ancestor of his Edomite tribes: Timna, Alvah, Jeheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel and Iram. The area was known by the names of the tribe.
