Genesis Chapter 11 Bible Study

The whole earth had one language with speech to communicate. As they walked from the east, they found a plain near Shinar and resided there. Then they decided to make bricks with mortar and asphalt to bake thoroughly. They also decided to build a city and tower high above the heavens and to make a name for themselves; otherwise, they would be fleeing over the earth. The Lord came down to see the city and tower being built.

The Lord said that the people wouldn’t know how to understand their language or speech and that they ceased building the city, so He began to scatter them abroad over the earth. Therefore its place was called Babel because of the Earth’s confusing language and fleeing away from Him. Shem had many descendants and had Arphaxad begotten after the flood. Terah had many sons of their own whom they had begotten. He was 100 years old.

Terah’s descendants were the same, but Sarai was barren and had no child conceived in her womb. Terah took Abram, his son, his grandson, Lot, and his wife, Sarai, and they departed from Ur to the land of Canaan and dwelt there. Terah’s days were 205 and he died in Haran.
