Genesis Chapter 25 Bible Study

Abraham married Keturah, another woman, and had many sons. He left everything to Isaac but gave presents to his sons. Abraham died at the age of 175 and was buried with Sarah in Machpelah Cave. After his death, God blessed Isaac, his son, who lived near “The Well of the Living One Who Sees Me.”

The sons of Ishmael, the son of Abraham and Hagar, were the ancestors of twelve tribes: Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. Ishmael died at the age of 137. His descendants lived in the east of Egypt on the way to Assyria apart from Abraham’s descendants.

Issac married Rebecca at the age of 40 and they didn’t have a child, so he prayed to the Lord for her and she became pregnant with twins. The twins struggled against each other in their mother’s womb. The Lord answered Rebecca’s wondering. “You will give birth to two rivals. One will be stronger than the other; the older will serve the younger.”

When Isaac was 60 years old, his twin sons were born. He named the first one Esau because he was reddish and hairy, and the second one Jacob because he was born holding Esau’s heel tightly.

The boys grew up, and Esau became a skilled hunter. Isaac enjoyed the killed animal he brought home, but Jacob was quiet and stayed at home, becoming Rebecca’s favored son.

One day, Esau came home very hungry after hunting and traded his rights as the firstborn son for the red stew that Jacob was cooking. Because of that,  Esau’s name was changed to Edom. He ate and drank, then left, showing that was all he cared about.
