Genesis Chapter 22 Bible Study

God called Abraham to test him and said, “Abraham, take your son, Isaac, and offer him as a sacrifice in the land of Moriah, on the mountain.” The next morning, Abraham cut wood and prepared his donkey and took Isaac and his two servants to the place God had told him about. On the third day after departure, Abraham saw the place in the distance and said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey; Isaac and I will go and worship and will come back to you.” Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice and he took the live coals and a knife. As Isaac wondered about the lamb for the sacrifice, Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide one.”

When they came to the place, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood to tie up and place his son on top of the wood. Then he picked up the knife to kill him. But the angel of the Lord said to Abraham, “Do not hurt or do anything to the boy. I know that you honor and obey God, and you have not kept back your only son from him.” Abraham saw a ram caught in a bush, offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son and named that place “The Lord Provides.”

The angel of the Lord said to Abraham a second time, “I will bless you by my own name. Because of you doing this for me, I will give you many descendants to conquer their enemies. I have blessed them all because you have obeyed my command.” Abraham went back home with his servants.

Some time later Abraham learned that Milcah had borne eight children to his brother Nahor including Kemuel the father of Aram and Bethuel the father of Rebekah.
