Genesis Chapter 16 Bible Study

Abram’s wife, Sarai, didn’t bear any children. Sarai told Abram to sleep with her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, so that she might have a child for her. Abram agreed with Sarai and she gave Hagar to him as his second wife. When Hagar was pregnant, she despised Sarai. Abram said to Sarai, “Very well, she is your slave under your control; do whatever you want with her.” Sarai treated Hagar cruelly that she ran away. The angel of the Lord met Hagar at the desert spring on the way to Shur and told Sarai, “Go back to her and be her slave. I will give you countless descendants and a son who will be called Ishmael, because the Lord has heard your distressed cry. Ishmael will be against everyone, and everyone shall be against him and he will live apart from his relatives.” Hagar asked, “Have I really seen God Himself?” She called the Lord, “A God Who Sees.” When Abram was 86 years old, Hagar bore him a son, Ishmael.
