Leviticus Chapter 8 Bible Study

The Lord said to Moses, “Take Aaron with his sons to the entrance of the Tent of My presence and bring the priestly garments, the anointing oil, the young bull for the sin offering, two rams and a basket with unleavened bread, with calls to the whole community.” When the whole community gathered, Moses told them, “This is what the Lord had commanded me to do.” Moses had Aaron and his sons take a ritual bath. He put the shirt and robe on Aaron and the sash around his waist with the ephod on him and fastened the woven belt. The breastpiece, Urim and Thummim were on him as well. He placed the turban on his head and the gold ornament as a sacred sign of dedication.

Then Moses took the anointing oil and put it on the Tent with everything as a sign of another dedication to the Lord. He took some of the anointing oil and sprinkled it seven times on the altar with the equipment and the basin with its base, and ordained Aaron by pouring some of oil on his head. Next, Moses brought Aaron’s sons forward and put shirts on them with sashes around their waists, with caps tied on their heads. Moses brought the young bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons put their hands up on the bull’s head. Moses killed it and took some of the blood, and dipped it with his finger near the projections for dedicating it. Moses took all the fat from the internal organs, the liver, the kidneys, and burned them all on the altar. He took the rest of the bull, including the skin, flesh and intestines to burn outside the camp.

Then Moses brought the ram for the burnt offering and Aaron and his sons put their hands on its head. Moses killed it and threw the blood on all sides of the altar. He cut the ram in pieces, washed its legs in water, burnt the head, fat, and all the rest of the ram parts. This offering was a burnt offering to the Lord. Moses brought the second ram for the priests’ ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Moses killed the ram and took some of the blood on Aaron’s right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot. He did the same thing to Aaron’s sons, then threw the rest of the blood on the altar. He took one loaf of unleavened bread, one loaf made with oil and one thin cake, and put them on the top of the fat and right hind leg from the ram. He put all of his food in Aaron and his sons’ hands as a special gift to the Lord. Moses took the food and burned it on the altar as an ordination offering. The food offering’s odor was pleasing to the Lord. Finally, Moses took the breast to present it as a special gift to the Lord. To consecrate Aaron and his sons and their clothing, Moses took some of the anointing oil and blood that were on the altar and sprinkled them. Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons. “You shall not leave the entrance of the Tent for seven days and nights until your ordination rites are completed in order to take away their sin. If you don’t, you will die.” So they did everything according to the Lord’s command through Moses.
