The Lord spoke to Moses from the Tent of the Lord’s presence and gave the Israelites’ rules for observing when they offer their sacrifices. When you offer an animal sacrifice, you will bring one of your cattle, sheep or goats. If you offer one of the cattle as a burnt offering, present it at the entrance of the Tent of the Lord’s presence so that He will accept you. You will put your hand on the bull’s head as a sacrifice so that your sins will be taken away. You shall kill the bull there, and the Aaronite priests will present the blood to the Lord and sprinkle it against all four sides of the altar at the entrance of the Tent. And you shall take the animal’s skin and cut it up, and the priests shall arrange firewood on the altar and light it.
The priests then will put the animal’s pieces on the fire, including the head and its fat, and you shall wash its internal organs and the hind legs. The priest will burn the whole sacrifice on the altar. The odor of the food offering is pleasing to the Lord. If you are offering one of your sheep or goats, it should be a non defective male. You shall kill it on the north side of the altar, and the priests will follow the same instructions that they do for bulls. The odor of the food offering is pleasing to the Lord.
If you are offering a bird as a burnt offering, it should be a dove or pigeon. The priest shall present it at the altar, break its neck and burn its head on the altar. The bird’s blood shall be poured out against the side of the altar. He shall take out the bird’s crop with its contents and throw them on the east side of the altar. The priest shall take hold of the bird’s wings without tearing its body open and burn it whole on the altar. The odor of the food offering is pleasing to the Lord.
