Exodus Chapter 34 Bible Study

The Lord told Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first stones, and I will write on them the words of the first two tablets. Meet Me on the top of Mount Sinai tomorrow morning. No person or cattle shall come with you.”

The Lord came down in a cloud and passed Moses, calling out, “I, the Lord, am a God who is full of compassion and pity, who is not easily angered and who shows great love and faithfulness. I keep My promise for thousands of generations and forgive evil and sin; but I will not fail to punish children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their parents.” Moses said, “Lord, go with us. These people are stubborn, but forgive our evil and sin to accept us as Your own people.”  “I, the Lord, make a covenant with the people of Israel. All the people will see what great things I can do.

Obey the laws that I am giving you today.

  • Do not make any treaties with the people of any country into which you are going.
  • Do not make any gods made of metal or worship them.
  • Keep the Festival of Unleavened Bread.
  • Every firstborn son and male domestic animal belongs to Me.
  • No one shall appear before Me without an offering.
  • You shall do your work for six days, but not on the seventh day.
  • Keep the Harvest Festival when you start harvesting your first wheat crop, and keep the Festival of Shelters when you gather your fruit in the autumn.
  • All your men shall come to worship Me, the Lord, 3 times a year.
  • When you sacrifice any animal to Me, do not offer leavened bread made with yeast.

The Lord told Moses, “Write these words, because it is the basis that I am making a new covenant with you and Israel.” Moses stayed there with the Lord forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing. He wrote the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments, on the tablets.  Moses came down from Mount Sinai bringing the Ten Commandments and his face was shining. After he talked to Aaron and all the leaders, he gave all the people of Israel the laws that the Lord had given him. When he had finished speaking, he covered his face with a veil, but whenever Moses went to the Tent to speak with the Lord, he would take it off and put it back again the next time he went to speak with the Lord.
