“Summon your brother, Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, that they may serve Me as priest. Call all the skilled workers to make the priestly garments for them. The skilled workers are to make the ephod of blue, purple and red wool, gold thread and fine linen decorated with embroidery. The two shoulder straps will attach to the sides. A firmly woven belt made of the same materials will be attached to the ephod, and it will form one piece. Take two carnelian stones and engrave on them the names of Jacob’s twelve sons and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod to represent the twelve tribes of Israel so that I, the Lord, will always remember my people. Make two gold settings and two chains of pure gold twisted like cords and attach them to the settings.
Make a breastpiece for the High Priest for determining God’s will. The breastpiece shall be made of the same materials as the ephod and with embroidery, square and folded double, 9 inches long and wide. Mount four rows of three precious stones on it. The engraved names of Jacob’s sons on each of the twelve stones will represent the tribes of Israel. Make chains of pure gold for the breastpiece. Make two gold rings attached to the upper corners and fasten the two gold cords to them. Fasten the other two ends of the cords to the two settings attached in front of the ephod’s shoulder straps. When Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will wear this breastpiece engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel, so that I, the Lord, will always remember my people.
Aaron will wear his robe when he serves as priest. When he comes into My presence in the Holy Place or when he leaves it, the sound of bells will be heard, and he will not be killed. Put the decorated clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, and ordain and dedicate them with olive oil so they may serve Me as priests. This shall be a permanent rule for Aaron and his descendants.”
